Distance: 8 miles round trip, from trailhead to cabin and back.

Hazards: Slick boardwalks, active brown bear and moose habitat.
Description: From the parking lot the Windfall Lake Trail begins on an abandoned dirt road paralleling the Herbert River. At approximately 1 mile the dirt road dead ends with the trail continuing to the right. Once in the wood the trail climbs steeply for ~100ft before the start of the “wooden rollercoaster” a rolling boardwalk that is all to fast for the frequently slick conditions. Alternating boardwalk and rocking trail continues for 2.5 miles before the trail forks; to the right is a trail that leads to the west side of the lake, to the left is a trail that leads to Windfall Lake Cabin and continues to the Montana Creek Trail. From the Cabin head back to the trail head for an 8 mile run or continue to Montana creek for a 20 mile point to point adventure.
